A's try to keep rolling in Kansas City

Baseball Betting Lines

07/17/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Oakland Athletics take aim at their fourth win in a row tonight, as they resume a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

On Friday, Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in two runs and Gio Gonzalez tossed seven innings of one-run ball, as the Athletics handled the Royals, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

Jack Cust and Mark Ellis each had an RBI for the Athletics, who have won three in a row since a four-game skid. Gonzalez (8-6) gave up seven hits to go with three strikeouts and one walk.

"It's a good start for Oakland," Gonzalez said. "It shows that we're coming out swinging and we're flashing our leather a little bit. Just all around, it was a great day for the Athletics."

Alberto Callaspo had two hits for the Royals, who have lost four straight contests.

Zack Greinke (5-9) allowed five runs -- two earned -- on four hits in six innings to take the loss. He also walked four and struck out three. The 2009 AL Cy Young Award recipient had gone 4-0 with a 3.00 earned run average over his previous five starts. He had also lasted at least seven innings in each of those games.

"I walked four guys. I got 3-0 on probably at least three guys and couldn't even throw to bases, so obviously command wasn't very good," Greinke said.

Taking the hill for Kansas City tonight will be Bruce Chen, who is trying to bounce back from his shortest start of the campaign. On July 9th, the left- hander made it only 3 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs and six hits in an 8-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox. He had been 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA over his prior four starts.

In four career starts versus the Athletics, Chen is 1-2 with a 3.28 ERA. However, this will be his first appearance versus them since 2005.

Trevor Cahill gets the call for Oakland and he is just one win away from matching his entire total from last season. The 22-year-old right-hander, who won 10 games as a rookie in 2009, last pitched on Sunday, when he allowed just one unearned run over seven innings of a 5-2 victory over the Angels. It was a nice bounce back after surrendering six earned runs in a loss to the Yankees in his prior start.

Cahill has won both of his career starts against the Royals, allowing five earned runs over 11 innings of work.

Last night's matchup marked the first meeting between these teams of 2010. Oakland won six of eight bouts with Kansas City last season, including two of three games held at Kauffman Stadium.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
