HRs by Gonzalez, Hairston end Hamels' no-hit bid as Padres winBaseball Betting Lines06/07/2010 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Hairston clubbed back-to-back homers with one out in the seventh inning to break up a no-hitter from Cole Hamels as San Diego downed Philadelphia, 3-1, to split a four-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Wade LeBlanc (3-4) gave up just four hits and a walk with two strikeouts over seven scoreless frames to snap a four-start losing streak for the Padres, who won the last two of the series. Gonzalez hit a pair of homers, also connecting off Danys Baez in the ninth inning. Hamels (5-5) was the hard-luck loser as he gave up just two runs on three hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts over eight innings for the Phillies, who have dropped six of eight. Placido Polanco had two hits and scored the only run on Ryan Howard's double in the ninth inning. Heath Bell then fanned Jayson Werth to end the game and logged his 16th save. The Padres made their first hits of the game count as Gonzalez hit a 1-1 pitch just over the wall in left and Hairston followed by clubbing a hanging curve deep into the seats in left for a 2-0 lead. Coming into the seventh having retired 11 straight, LeBlanc kept up his solid effort with another 1-2-3 inning. Luke Gregerson relieved LeBlanc in the eighth and set the Phils down in order, including a diving catch by Chris Denorfia on a Ross Gload sinking liner to right to end the inning. Gonzalez made it a 3-0 game in the ninth with a blast to left on a 3-2 pitch, his 13th home run of the season. The Phils loaded the bases in the first inning with one out, but Werth grounded into a double play to end the inning. Philly got a leadoff single from Raul Ibanez in the second, but Carlos Ruiz flied out and Wilson Valdez lined out to right with Ibanez getting caught off the bag for the double play. Hamels was cruising through his start as over the first six innings he only allowed two men to reach base, walks to LeBlanc in the third and Gonzalez in the fourth. LeBlanc was matching Hamels' effort. After giving up a one-out single to Shane Victorino in the third, he retired the final 14 batters he faced. Game Notes Philadelphia had won seven straight against San Diego before the two losses...Hamels fell to 3-2 in eight starts against San Diego...It was LeBlanc's first game against the Phils...Philly hosts Florida for three games starting on Tuesday...San Diego begins a three-game series in New York against the Mets on Tuesday...In the first-round of the draft taking place on Monday, the Phils took left-handed pitcher Jesse Biddle while San Diego took right- handed pitcher Karsten Whitson...Hamels has lost his last three starts.

Big 12 Conference betting odds Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State Work left to do: Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on. Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough. Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
