New Orleans, LA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - New Orleans and Oklahoma City finalized a
deal Tuesday that will send center Tyson Chandler to the Thunder.
In exchange for Chandler, Oklahoma City will send forward Joe Smith, center
Chris Wilcox and the draft rights to center Devon Hardin to New Orleans.
"First off, I want to wish Tyson the best of luck in [Oklahoma City], he is an
outstanding person and we thank him for his service as a Hornet," said Hornets
head coach Byron Scott. "I am excited to be able to get more frontcourt depth
in bringing Chris and Joe in, they are experienced NBA players who will be
able to step right in and help us. In addition, we get a promising young post
player in Hardin."
Chandler, who spent the last three seasons with the Hornets, is averaging 8.8
points and 8.3 rebounds in 32 contests this season. Chandler was selected
second overall in the 2001 NBA Draft out of high school, by the Los Angeles Clippers, and was dealt to Chicago. He played five seasons with the Bulls
before going to the Hornets. Over 524 career games, the 7-foot-1 Chandler owns
averages of 8.2 points and 9.0 rebounds.
Wilcox was the eighth overall pick of the 2002 NBA Draft, also by the
Clippers. He is in his seventh season in the league, and was averaging 8.4
points and 5.3 rebounds in 37 games for the Thunder. In 423 career games with
the Clippers and SuperSonics/Thunder, Wilcox has posted 9.5 points and 5.4
rebounds per contest.
Smith was another high draft pick, going first overall in 1995 to the
Warriors. He is averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 boards in 36 games this season
for the Thunder, and owns career numbers of 11.7 points and 6.8 rebounds.
Hardin, the 50th overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Thunder, averaged 9.3
points and 7.4 rebounds in his senior season at Cal.
