Indiana State parts ways with Waltman
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
03/03/2007 -
Terre Haute, IN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Indiana State has announced that it will
not renew the contract of men's basketball coach Royce Waltman.
The announcement comes one day after the Sycamores were eliminated from the
Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with a 59-38 quarterfinal loss to
Creighton.
"As we enter a new chapter in Sycamore men's basketball history, I would like
to thank coach Waltman, and his staff, for their leadership and commitment to
building the quality young men which they have worked with while at Indiana
State," said athletic director Ron Prettyman in a release Saturday morning.
Waltman spent 10 years with the program, compiling a record of 134-164,
including just a 13-18 mark this past season. Indiana State reached the NCAA
Tournament in 2000 and 2001 under Waltman, but the Sycamores have failed to
post a winning record since.
The search for a new coach will begin immediately.
"I am optimistic about the future of our program," Prettyman added. "I am
confident that after a thorough and nationwide search, we will bring in new
leadership to the program that will move us forward."
Indiana State gained national notoriety during the 1978-79 season when Larry
Bird led the school to a 33-1 record, with the lone loss coming in the
national championship game against Michigan State and Magic Johnson.

The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes.
