Heat pay a visit to lowly Nets

Basketball Betting Lines

03/22/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Miami Heat aim to take another step towards seizing a playoff berth in tonight's game against a New Jersey Nets team hoping to avoid getting closer to setting a dubious NBA record when it takes the IZOD Center court this evening.

Miami will enter the Meadowlands holding the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference and moved into that spot with Saturday's 77-71 victory over visiting Charlotte. The win pushed the Heat a half-game ahead of the Bobcats in the standings, with Toronto lurking only one behind Miami in eighth place.

The Heat were able to stop a two-game losing streak despite an off night from Dwyane Wade, with the All-Star guard's 14 points coming well under his season average of 26.5 per game. Quentin Richardson helped offset his teammate's modest total by burying a franchise-record six three-pointers in the first half en route to an 18-point effort.

Michael Beasley added 16 points and seven rebounds for Miami, which has won seven of its last 10 overall. Wade did contribute in other ways, dishing out nine assists while tying a career high with five blocked shots to lead a strong defensive effort.

"We were well balanced today," Beasley said after the game. "That's unusual for Wade. I think he made his presence known. He basically had a quadruple- double, almost. He was doing everything on the defensive side, getting rebounds and getting the team involved. It says that we have people that could put points on the board."

Miami starts up a key three-game road trip tonight and owns a mediocre 15-18 record as the visitor this season. The Heat have won in five of their last six stops at the IZOD Center, though, including an 87-84 decision there on February 17.

The Heat also came through with a one-point win over the Nets in Miami earlier this season and have taken five of the past six overall meetings between these teams.

Miami played Saturday's test without center Jermaine O'Neal due to a sprained left ankle, but the six-time All-Star is expected to be available for tonight's game. The 31-year-old is averaging 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in his first season with the Heat.

While New Jersey has no chance of reaching the postseason, the team still has something to play over the season's final few weeks. At 7-62, the Nets are in danger of establishing a new league mark for futility set by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who went 9-73 over the course of that campaign.

A current seven-game skid has enabled New Jersey to creep closer to that unwanted mark, with the latest loss taking place against Toronto on Saturday. Devin Harris had 22 points and seven assists for the Nets in the 100-90 setback, which dropped the club to a horrid 3-30 at home for the season.

Brook Lopez tallied 18 points and 13 rebounds for New Jersey, which held a three-point halftime lead before being outscored by 32-19 margin in the third quarter.

"The games that we win we make a lot of right plays, good momentum plays," Harris said. "[Saturday] we didn't. [The Raptors] got a lot of loose balls, and the offensive rebounds were key for them to push the lead up to double- digits late in the game."

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com. MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season.  What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season.  Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all.  Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13).  Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two.  Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury.  Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven.  Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury.  Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
