Jazz still alive for No. 2 seed after downing Warriors

Basketball Betting Lines

04/14/2010 - Oakland, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Paul Millsap pulled down a career-high 24 rebounds to go with 10 points off the bench, as the Utah Jazz continued its push for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference by taking down the Golden State Warriors, 103-94, at ORACLE Arena.

Mehmet Okur added 23 points and seven rebounds for the Jazz, who have won 11 of their last 15 games.

With Denver losing at Phoenix Tuesday, Utah moved a half-game ahead of the Nuggets into first place in the Northwest Division. Denver concluded its season, and if Utah wins Wednesday at home against Phoenix, the Jazz will win the division. The Jazz can also move up to the No. 2 seed with a victory combined with a Dallas loss Wednesday vs. San Antonio. Utah would fall to the No. 5 seed with a loss to the Suns.

The Jazz head to Salt Lake City riding a 10-game home winning streak.

Wesley Matthews and C.J. Miles each chipped in 16 points, while Ronnie Price donated 14 points and nine assists off the bench for the victors.

Utah forward Carlos Boozer left the game after the first quarter after straining a muscle in his right ribcage. X-rays were negative. Boozer had five points and four rebounds before leaving.

Devean George made five three-pointers en route to a season-high 21 points off the bench for the Warriors, who will finish the season in Portland on Wednesday. Stephen Curry ended with 17 points and six assists.

Utah scored the first eight points of the third quarter to take a 55-47 edge. The Warriors kept things close and got within 59-56 on George's three-pointer with 6 1/2 minutes to go.

But the Jazz responded with a 9-1 burst, which Matthews capped with a layup and jumper to make it a 68-57 game with four minutes remaining. The score was 77-69 heading to the fourth.

Golden State never got closer than six in the final period.

The score was 22-all after 12 minutes and 47-47 at the half.

Game Notes

Utah wins the season series with Golden State, 3-0...The Jazz completed their second season sweep of the Warriors in three years and have won nine of the last 12 meetings in the series...Anthony Tolliver had 15 points and nine rebounds for Golden State, which got 14 points apiece from Reggie Williams and Monta Ellis.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
